Painting External Doors Matt Acrylic

While our paints are fantastic for many applications, we generally don't recommend them for external doors, such as front, garage, side, and back doors, due to the constant wear and tear they experience.

That said, we've had many customers achieve great success using our paints on external doors by adding a protective top coat. We highly recommend using a lacquer top coat, such as our 780 Coating Matt or any product from our AquaLak range. These lacquers will increase the durability and toughness of the painted surface, making it much more suitable for a busy environment.

If you would prefer not to use a top coat, you can also use the exterior version of our paint (though only a few colours are available in exterior). If there isn't an exterior version of the colour you like, you can add 20% AquaPlus to the paint to make it more durable.

Please note that even with the use of a top coat, the addition of AquaPlus, or using an exterior matt, applying our paint to external doors means you are working outside of our standard product recommendations for high-traffic areas.

Also, be aware that bright and fluorescent colours will fade in sunlight due to UV exposure.
